In a world growing in uncertainty, danger, and hopelessness, there is one source that provides certainty and safety. God is that anchor, with a love that defies human understanding. There are some scriptures presented that are unique. There is never a charge for anything.
How appropriate that one of Jesus Christ's first recorded sermon in scripture addresses you and me, those hurting. Standing up in a synagogue Our Lord began to speak, from the book of Isaiah.
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,"
And He began to say unto them, "This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears". (Luke 4:18, 21)
Sometimes in translation, the in depth meaning is lost. When these four words are properly translated in the above verses, we should be humbled to our core.
"Poor": "pauper", "beggar", "cringing".
"Brokenhearted": from two Greek words meaning to completely crush one's heart. (hopelessness.)
"Captives": a prisoner from war, physically and/or spiritually. (Death camps, the depravity, the murders)
"Bruise": dismembered in pieces. (Torn assunder, complete disintegration of the person. You do not exist.)
Christ's thoughts are so incredibly deep with meaning and empathy. Christ did not come to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. See John 3:17.
