In 2010 Maine Contract Farming agreed to pay $34,674.11 in fines for animal cruelty because of how they treated their chickens. The treatement included the use of what some people call "battery cages" and the use of those has since been banned by several states.

Maine Contract Farming is a DeCoster Egg Farm owned by Jack DeCoster.
