Ransom (2006) Starring Mel Gibson

When super rich airline owner Tom Mullin’s (Mel Gibson) son is kidnapped and held for ransom he gets sick of the repeated failure of the police to find him and takes matters into his own hands. His solution is to go on the news with the ransom money in cash and offer it as a reward on the head of the kidnapper. His vigilante move triggers an unpredictable roller coaster of action and emotional turmoil for Tom and his wife Kate (Rene Russo) who struggle between efforts to bring their son home and the constant fear that the kidnapper may snap and kill him.

Walter (Kevin Bacon) is a convicted sex offender released after serving 12 years in prison who moves into a small apartment across the street from an elementary school (not Skyline) and gets a job at a lumberyard. As he struggles to re-assimilate himself into society he lives in constant fear of his co-workers finding out that he is a pedophile while getting the black sheep treatment from his family and being hounded by a suspicious cop. Eventually he gets confronted by his old urges when he befriends a young girl in a public park. *Note: I have not seen this movie and given my busy schedule I probably won’t get around to it.

Tom Cruise plays David Aames, a rich publisher who had everything until a crazy bitch (Cameron Diaz) ruined his life by driving her car off into oncoming traffic and off a bridge on purpose with him in it. She thought that just because he slept with her from time to time that there was some kind of meaningful relationship even thought he never said so and she went insane when pointed that out to her.

The 2005 movie version of the award winning Broadway musical musical Rent starring Rosario Dawson, Adam Pascal, and Anthony Rapp as a group of friends in the East Village section of New York City during the late 1980's and early 1990's affected by the still new AIDS virus. The cast consists of a HIV positive drag queen, musician, and former junkie along with professional people including a landlord, lawyer, and computer genius. The film is rumored to be full of singing as if you were actually watching the play in your living room. Rent the musical and its song 525,600 minutes inspired the musical "Lease" and its song "Everyone Has AIDS" in the 2004 war on terror puppet comedy Team America World Police. The East Village section of New York City can be explored in Grand Theft Auto IV (GTA IV) where it is known as Easton, Algonquin.

The 1995 movie KIDS starring Leo Fitzpatrick as Telly, a hard drinking, pot smoking, drug using, and promiscuous teenager. As the opening seen makes obvious Telly is a successful conquer of teenage girls and has one goal in life, to take the virginity of as many girls as possible. The problem with his objective is that unbeknown to him he is a carrier of the HIV Virus. A fact that comes to light when Jennie (Chloe Sevigny) goes to the STD clinic not because she think she might have something, but to support her slutty friend Ruby played by a young Rosario Dawson (Sin City, Clerks II) who despite have been with more guys then she can remember tests negative for all STDs. Unfortunately Jennie who has only had sex with Telly tests positive for the HIV virus. Jennie sets out to locate Telly and tell him about her HIV status before he can infect others. Directed by Larry Clark this film was hailed by critics as a “wake up call” for safe sex education in the mid 1990’s.

Philadelphia follows the story of Andrew Beckett (Tom Hanks) a gay attorney dying of the AIDS virus. Beckett had been fired from his job a homophobic law firm after they noticed and accurately guessed were AIDS related legions on his body. Beckett hires another attorney Joe Miller (Denzel Washington) to sue his former boss for discrimination based on his medical condition and sexual orientation. Due to Beckett’s worsening condition it is a race against time to find justice before he succumbs to his illness.
