SuperDeluxe: Misleading Value Meal Advertisement

When I visited a SuperDeluxe burger joint in Portland, Oregon today I noticed a misleading advertisement on the giant board next to the menu behind the counter. When I got home I found the same misleading sales pitch on their website which reads "add a regular drink and fries to any sandwich and save $1." When I ordered a Single Deluxe burger with fries and a drink they didn't reduce the price by $1. They should have lowered the price from $5.95 (the price for a Single Deluxe burger) to $4.95. Instead they tried to charge me over $10. It turns out they only subtracted $1 from the line price of the burger before charging more than twice as much to include fries and a drink. I didn't feel like paying over $10 just to add fries and a 16 ounce drink, so I just ordered the burger. At least the burger was good though.

Great Beer and Good Food at The Rogue Hall

Rogue Ales has blessed Portland State University (PSU) with its first descent bar and grill since the Cheerful Tortoise finally giving students a better watering hole right across the street from campus. The burgers there are good and I'll assume the rest of the menu is as well, but where the Rogue Hall really shines is with its collection of premium Rogue micro-beers. They are not cheap, but they are great or at least good depending on your tastes and the bartenders are nice enough to give out free shot glass samples so that you can try before you buy. I highly recommend the chocolate stout.

Worst Quesadilla Ever at Gustav's German Pub & Grill

I've eaten some good food at Gustav's German Pub and Gill in Tigard over the years, but when I ordered a quesadilla as an appetizer back in late 2004 or early 2005 I got a mouth full that I have yet to forget. I don't know quite how to describe it other than to say that it didn't taste like any quesadilla I've ever eaten before or since. The flavor was just horribly wrong and it left me hoping that I wouldn't have a battle with the runs when I got home, but surprisingly my bowels never had a problem. Still it was bad enough to convince me never to order Mexican food at a German restaurant ever again. I'm not saying don't eat at Gustav's because I've been back there myself several times since and everything else I've ever ordered there has been fine. I am strongly recommending that you never order the quesadilla and get one of the sausage appetizers instead with a large stein glass filled with one of the many good beers they have on tap.
