The song depicts stereotypical problems involving illegal aliens followed by the chorus "It's no fun being an illegal alien". The song was controversial because of a part where the immigrant tries to trade sexual favors from his sister as a bribe to across the border that was edited out of the radio version and the music video in which band leader Phil Collins depicts the lead binge drinking, chain smoking, and Mariachi music playing immigrant with a fake Mexican mustache and accent at times wearing a sombrero. The Genesis Platinum Collection includes all of the English rock bands most popular songs including "Land of Confusion", "Invisible Touch", and "Mama". The band consists of lead drummer and singer Phil Collins, guitarist Mike Rutherford, and Tony Banks on the keyboard.

Crossing Over is about a group of illegal aliens struggling to get legalized in Los Angeles with Harrison Ford starring as the good Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent Max Brogan and Ray Liotta as the bad immigration cop Cole Frankel. The movie has been compared to the Academy Award winning film Crash in that it examines a diverse group of minorities in Los Angeles, but instead of focusing on racial tensions between Americans it deals with illegal aliens from about as many backgrounds as you can fit into a movie just like Crash, but unlike Crash this movie never really caught on. The main plot outline involves Brogan getting involved with the family of an illegal alien woman who was deported by personally taking her kid back to his grandparents in Mexico before finding the deported alien murdered at the border and going back to deliver the news to the family. Other sub-plots involve an illegal alien from Bangladesh being spied on by the FBI for running an Islamic extremist website, a South Korean kid who tried to stay on the right path before robbing a convenience store, and Cole Frankel agreeing to supply Australian alien wannabe actress Claire Shepard (Alice Eve) with a Green Card in exchange for 2 months of unlimited sex. Jakadrien Turner was arrested, gave police a fake name belonging to an illegal alien, and ICE deported her to Columbia. Even though ICE took her fingerprints they still failed to identify her somehow, so she ended up getting shipped to Columbia, given a work card by the government, and found a job cleaning houses despite not speaking the language. Eventually her grandma tracked her down on Facebook and tried to help her come home, but the Colombian government is now holding her in a detention center. Although the exact reason for her detention in Colombia is unknown it most likely has to do with her status as an undocumented immigrant.
