Georgia State Senator Jeff Mullis Wants to Ban Day Laborers

Georgia State Senator Jeff Mullis made headlines back in February when he introduced a bill intended to ban the hiring of day laborers. He introduced the bill primarily to crack down on people who hire illegal aliens because a significantly large number of day laborers in Georgia are in the country illegally. Mullis like many people realized that the main reason why day laborers come to America is because people hire them illegally and if people stop hiring them they won't show up looking for work.

League City Police Department Sued by Day Laborers

The League City Police Department is being sued by a group of about 40 day laborers. The laborers claim that they were wrongfully arrested while looking for work on a street corner and feel their right to free speech was violated. Residents of League City seem divided on the issue depending on whether or not the day laborers were in the country legally. They feel that anyone in the country legally should be able to look for work, but illegal aliens should not be able to. It should be interesting to see what grounds the police had for the arrests since being a day laborer by itself is not a valid indicator of immigration status.

American Day Laborers Lining Up Overnight Hoping for Work

A group of unemployed American day laborers made the news by lining up overnight outside of a labor center hoping to find work like Star Wars fans camping out for tickets to a prequel. These day laborers do not fit the typical day laborer stereotypes because they speak fluent English, are mostly Caucasian, and appear to be native born American citizens as opposed to the stereotypical day laborer who most people picture as being Spanish speaking, Latino, and in the country illegally. These people are all hoping to be picked up for 12 hour shifts once the day starts and can be found waiting outside the Labor Ready on Cliff Avenue and 26th Street in Sioux Falls, South Dakota every day. Each one makes an exceptionally strong effort to make money during the summer because when the weather gets worse demand for day laborers significantly decreases.

Alabama Immigration Law Loophole for Home Owners

A new law designed to crack down on people hiring illegal immigrants has a loophole that can be exploited by "casual domestic labor". This means that illegal aliens can still work in Alabama as long as they only work for residential home owners. The reason for the loophole was to help home owners save money by not having to screen the help using Homeland Security's E-Verify system.

CBC Launching Job Fairs for African Americans

Over 1,100 Layoffs Announced in Illinois Last Month

The job market took a turn for the worst for at least 1,100 people in Illinois last month when their bosses realized that they were no longer economically viable and decided that they will lose their jobs by the end of the year. That number should look low to people who have been studying the job market because it is. Illinois law only requires companies to give advanced notice of layoffs if over 250 employees are being laid off from a single place unless the layoffs involve 25 or more workers who make up one third or more of a work force.

United States Army Hiring Alcohol Abuse Counselors

The United States Army is hiring alcohol abuse counselors to make sure soldiers have the support they need to stop drinking whenever they want to and give them proper motivation to want to stop drinking. This recent surge in alcohol support personnel is due to a substantial increase in alcohol abuse by American soldiers since Barack Obama took office. The majority of new US Army alcohol abuse related incidents have been traced to troops who Obama pulled out of Iraq. These soldiers have had trouble adjusting to life in a better country where freedom from Islam allows them to drink freely without being afraid of getting caught with booze smuggled to them through the mail by their fraternity brothers who cleverly disguised grain alcohol as legitimate non-alcoholic liquid based consumer products. This terrible tragedy could have easily been avoided if Obama had taken a history class or two about how the Spaniards conquered most of the new world and applied those lessons to managing Iraq. Unlike Obama the Spaniards knew how to make the uncivilized societies they encountered improve themselves by learning their language, adapting better customs (that include drinking alcohol), and making productive use of the women to make sure that future generations would always view their liberators in a fatherly way.

Los Angeles day labor centers are turning into theaters run by day laborers turned actors all over southern California to educate migrant workers about their rights. The Day Laborer Theater Without Borders aims to blend humor with serious risk management advice primarily for immigrants just in case they ever take advantage of abusive employment opportunities working for the kind of people who pick up day laborers. One of the skits features an American in a business suit standing behind an illegal alien maid cleaning his floor before propositioning her and threatening to report her to immigration if she refuses to have sex with him. According to the actors skits like that one came from their own experiences in the workplace proving that illegal aliens hate businesses that hire them just as much as Americans do.

Day Labor Centers Promote Hiring Illegal Aliens

According to a UCLA study day laborers in Petaluma, California are overwhelmingly likely to be illegal aliens. This has led to accusations against hiring halls and day labor centers of hiring illegal aliens or promoting the hiring of illegal aliens. This was pointed out in a recent article by Jon Feere advocating for the use of E-Verify in Sonoma County to discourage the hiring of people who are in the country illegally. Another alternative to hiring illegal workers would be for American workers and employers to connect online using sites like DayLabor.org. This site may not require screening to post a job opening, business, or worker profile, but due the fact that most day laborers are not as tech savvy as most and this site being written entirely in English the user base would be primarily native born. The tool exists, now people just need to start using it.
