Years after Bill the Butcher (Daniel Day-Lewis) killed Priest Vallon (Liam Neeson) his only son Amsterdam Vallon (Leonardo DiCaprio) returns to the five points neighborhood of New York City seeking revenge against his father's killer. Vallon was only a small boy when tensions between Irish immigrants and the native born population reached a boiling point. Fed up with the constant stream of new immigrants coming off boats from Europe everyday the native born Americans led by Bill the Butcher challenged the Irish led by Priest Vallon to a bloody fight to the death using fists and melee weapons. Now that Amsterdam Vallon is a young man he seeks to blend in with the native population and gain the trust of Bill the Butcher, so that he can kill him. Along the way he develops a relationship with thieving lady Jenny Everdeane (Cameron Diaz) who also has a history with Bill the Butcher. Eventually external factors impact the characters when the civil war forces a military draft in which many natives could afford to pay a fee while the poor Irish had to sign up and fight. This led to a full scale riot that required the army and navy to intervene after police were overwhelmed.

Once in the nut house he finds himself easily entertained by wackos played by Danny DeVito, Christopher Lloyd, Michael Berryman, and a few others, but eventually rebels against the evil power hungry nurse played by Louise Fletcher.

Stanley Kubrick's 1987 Vietnam War movie best known for the boot camp segment featuring R. Lee Ermey and this scene where a prostitute in Da Nang propositions Private Joker (Matthew Modine) and Rafterman (Kevyn Major Howard) with the now famous phrase most commonly associated with non-English speaking Asian hooker "Me So Horny, Me Love You Long Time" offering to have sex with them for fifteen dollars each, but Joker talks her down to ten dollars each after telling her "Five dollars is all my mom allows me to spend" before explaining the "Half of these **** whores are serving officers in the Viet Cong and the other half have got TB make sure you only fuck the ones that cough." Unfortunately their party is ruined by a local thief with Bruce Lee style Karate skills. The voice of the prostitute was dubbed into the lead song "Me So Horny" of 2 Live Crew’s 1989 album "As Nasty As They Wanna Be" and was imitated by Steve Carell’s poor attempt at describing a sexual experience that made every one realize that Andy was a Virgin in the 2005 comedy "The 40 Year Old Virgin".
